Generally, people don’t enter psychological counseling for nothing. Lots of people make this decision after thinking over repeatedly and pro-longed struggling; therefore, the clients expect something from psychological counseling regardless they can feel or talk about their problems concretely. So, psychologists are prepared for, sensitive to and comprehensive of the expectation and difficulty of trying on psychological counseling on the part of the clients. More importantly, even though psychological counseling shares the same tool with ordinary conversation, that is, language, it is the “motivation” and “expertise” of the psychologists that makes psychological counseling completely different from ordinary conversation.

Accordingly, psychologists have clearly oriented “motives” and must utilize the expertise behind this professional position in the process of psychological counseling. On the other hand, ordinary conversation, discussion or even meetings can be made to share and interflow, convey information or opinions, reach some sort of consensuses or conclusions, or even conducted without any clear purposes or common needs. Thus, not under the situation of psychological counseling, without any consensus or contractual relationship with the client, not motivated by the benefit of the client’s inner growth, or not employing any of the professional abilities mentioned above, the conversation conducted even with a qualified psychologist is completely different from psychological counseling and cannot be expected to have the effects of psychological counseling.
